Guide to Hardsubs & Softsubs

Hardsubs — hard-coded subtitles burned onto the raw videos.

The subtitles cannot be removed.

Ex) Hardsubs are the subtitles you may see on official anime websites > Crunchyroll.

Purchased DVD subtitles

Softsubs — Subtitle files - Timed Subtitles separated from the video file

Due to their convenience and options,  they have become more popular among subbers and viewers.

To use softsubs make sure the subtitle file and the raw video are in the same folder.

Both files must be the same name.

For easier use, VLC software is highly recommended when using softsubs. Open raw video with VLC. On the top option of the player, click "subtitles" > "add subtitles", and the subtitle file can be selected. You could turn subtitles on or off and replace it with another language or an updated softsub if you prefer.

Softsubs could also be used when you purchase the film/dramas Blu-ray/DVD.

NOTE: Make sure the Blu-ray/DVD you purchase is compatible with your device or region.

In most cases, you'll find that the film or series you love may not have subtitles.

This is where softsubs come in.

We recommend the extension:

Substital - This extension helps people add subtitles onto platforms such as Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime.

You could enjoy watching film/drama while directly supporting the original creators.

If you have access to the above platforms we may consider giving access to softsubs.
